Julie Ann Marie Klaas, 50, of 659 Girard St. NE, Washington, D.C., formerly of Dubuque, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Provident Hospital, Washington, D.C., after a long illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Catholic Church, Dubuque, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. The Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

She worked for the United States Environmental Protection Agency in Washington for the past 25 years.

She was born on May 25, 1953, in Dubuque, daughter of Urban F. and Jean (Kahle) Klaas.

She graduated from Wahlert High School, Dubuque, received her bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and her master's degree from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.

Julie was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter, Marie.

Surviving are her husband, Jon Pangman, of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Marie Elyse, at home; her mother, Jean A. Klaas, of Dubuque; sisters, Cheryl (Michael) Orndorf, of Winchester, Calif., Bonnie (Donald) Westemeier, of Dubuque, Debra (Howard) Hymen, of Palatine, Ill., and Donna (Rick) Roeder, of Bellevue, Iowa; and brothers, Raymond (Susan) Klaas, of Payne Springs, Texas, Herbert (Karen) Klaas, of Saratoga, Calif., and Darin (Kristine) Klaas, of Beaverton, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her father, Urban F. Klaas, and a brother, Joseph P. Klaas.
