Sammy W. Potts, 54, of 1899 Vizaleea Drive, died from natural causes Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

He was born on Aug. 17, 1948, in Terre Haute, Ind., son of Gene and Wanda (Rice) Potts.

He lived and worked in the Dubuque area for many years. He worked for Montgomery Ward Auto Service Department in both Chicago and Dubuque. Most recently, he was a manager at Weldon Tire on Century Drive until his death.

Sammy was a past president and an active member of the Eagles Club and never faltered from being a "true" Chicago Bears fan. He also was an avid collector of John Wayne memorabilia.

Surviving are his fiancee, Sheryl Sprague, of Dubuque; two sons, Dennis (Brenda) Potts, of Wolcottville, Ind., and Michael (Sara) Potts, of Terre Haute; two sisters, Carolyn (Frank) Cliff and Cindy (Fred) Fenton, both of Terre Haute; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering and final farewell to Sammy will be held after 8 p.m. Wednesday at The Eagles Club on Century Drive.
