Donald "Red" Lattner, 81, of 225 S. Grandview Ave., died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at home, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 4:15 p.m.

Mr. Lattner worked in the signal department at Illinois Central Gulf Railroad from 1942 until his retirement in 1984.

He was born on Sept. 2, 1921, in Cascade, Iowa, son of Edward and Mathilda (Breitbach) Lattner. He married Lorry Neitzel in 1948, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Chicago.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. He was a member of Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen Local 29, serving as secretary-treasurer. He also was a member of St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter.

Surviving are his wife, Lorry, of Dubuque; two children, Michael (Kim) Lattner, of Dubuque, and Brigid (Allan) Berger, of Houston; three grandchildren, Leigha, Andrea and Erik Lattner; two brothers, Merlin (Cecilia) Lattner and Edwin (Alberta) Lattner, both of Dubuque; and two sisters-in-law, Sandra (Rich) Carr, of Griffith, Ind., and Arlene Lattner, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Louis E (Catherine) and Harold W. Lattner.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque and St. Columbkille's Catholic Church.

The family would like to thank Mary, Lyn and Sheila, of Hospice of Dubuque, for their loving care.
