Deceased Name: Agnes E. Steines
Agnes E. Steines, 87, formerly of 2444 West 32nd St., Dubuque, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Zinkula officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Friends also may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1923, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, daughter of Michael and Veronica (Brimeyer) Engling. She married Herman Steines, Oct. 10, 1944 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista; he preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2002.

Agnes was a member of Holy Ghost parish and its Rosary Society, a 4-H leader for 25 years and received the Outstanding 4-H Leader Award. She also was a member of the Millville Go-Getters 4-H Club, was active in the Dubuque Women's Club and was past member of the Eagles Club.

Agnes enjoyed baking and cooking big meals with her husband for their family. She was famous for her sugar cookies, pies and stuffing. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, Mary Lou Steines, of Dubuque, Leon H. (Dorothy) Steines, of Bernard, Robert M. (Donna) Steines, Thomas S. Steines, Joseph L. Steines and Timothy P. (Lynn) Steines, all of Dubuque; a daughter-in-law, Lorrie E. Steines, of Asbury; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a brother, Elmer (Marilyn) Engling, of Dubuque; two brothers-in-law, LeRoy (Betty) Steines, of Dubuque, and Lawrence Lucas, of Dyersville; and four sisters-in-law, Elverda Engling and Malinda Kunkel, both of Dubuque, Edith Mae Steines, of Keokuk, and Isabella Steines, of Dyersville.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard L. Steines, on Nov. 2, 1995; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie (Sylvester) Kluesner, Viola (John) Kaufmann, Cecila (Russell) Gantenbein and Dorothy Lucas; and five brothers-in-law, Bernard Kluesner, Sylvester Steines, Lawrence Steines, Duane Kunkel and Hubert Engling.

An Agnes E. Steines Memorial Fund has been established.
