Mortuary. Another old settler has departed from our midst, W.P. Murphy expired at the residence of his son-in-law, on 4th street, last evening at 5 o'clock, after a short illness. Deceased was the father-in-law of John Lynch and Lawrence Corcoran of this city, and for a year or more has been unable to leave his residence although he was able to walk from one room to another, a feat he performed last Sunday. Old age crept over him and his feeble frame gave was all at once resulting in death.

W.P. Murphy was a man who has filled many important positions in life. For a number of years he was gunner at the United States armory near Boston, where heavy ordnances were cast and tested which latter business was his special duty. After moving to Dubuque his love for machinery and tools prompted him to open a shop on 8th street, where small jobs such as filling saws, mending locks, fitting keys, & c, occupied his attention for several years. A little over a year ago his consort preceded him to that "bourne from which no traveler ever returns," and thus has passed away another generation. Two children remain of the family, a son residing in Chicago and a daughter, wife of John Lynch. Mr. Murphy's age was 81 years.
