Death of H.J. Knopp
The public were startled yesterday afternoon by the announcement of the death of Henry J. knopp, of the firm of Knopp & Brede saloon proprietors, corner of 7th and Iowa streets. To all appearances Henry Knopp was a robust, healthy man and the last one to drop off so suddenly , but the grim destroyer death marked him for his own and called him in the presence of his maker.

Mr. Knopp was a native of Nassau, now a province of Prussia, and came to America about twenty years ago. He settled for a time in Texas but came north, settling in Dubuque six years ago, five of which time he has been a partner of Frank Brode [or Brede]. He has enjoyed good health apparently, but was at times troubled with a pain in his head, although able to share his portion of the duties in the business. Two days before Christmas he compalined of a rush of blood to his head and went home feeling ill. Since that time he has been confined to his room, although no serious consequences were feared until last Thursday when brain fever set in, terminating his earthly existence at three o'clock yesterday afternoon, at the age of 32 years. Deceased was a devout member of the Catholic church and died in the firm belief of a blessed hereafter. He leaves a wife and six small children, the oldest but eleven years old. He was a man universally respected for his many virtues, conscientious in all dealings with his fellow man, an excellent citizen, a kind husband and loving father. By his death, the community has lost an honorable citizen and his partner an associate whose death has made a void that cannot be filled. The funeral will take place tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon, from the residence, corner of Bluff and 12th street.
