The Late Hon. F.E. Bissell - Resolutions of Respect and Sympathy
[extracted from the lengthy resolutions]
... the members of the Dubuque Bar assembled at the court house to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of the late Hon. F.E. Bissell
... Whereas, Divine Providence has removed from the field of earthly labor, Hon. Frederick E. Bissell, whose professional career, from its humble commencement as a graduate of a law office, to its distinguished close as Attorney General of the State of Iowa ...

Hon. D.N. Cooley offered a word in memory of the deceased ... Death has been busy among the earlier members of the Dubuque Bar. But two besides himself now survived of the earlier members of the Bar.

Judge Hart added his heartfelt tribute ... he remembered Mr. Bissell as a young man struggling for professional success. He was always a friend to every member of the bar. In the social circle he was genial. To young men seeking professional success he always freely gave advice and aid.

Hon. T. Davis, a former partner of Mr. Bissell .... his great characteristic was his good common sense. Raised a farmer's boy he chose the legal profession and entered upon it with a determination to succeed.
