Robert V. Tigges, 77, of 8758 Military Road, died at 4:01 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Bethany Home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at St. Joseph's, Key West, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Chapel Mausoleum, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church until time of services. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Oct. 18, 1933, in Dubuque, son of Clarence and Rosalyn (Koster) Tigges. He married Lila Arensdorf on May 22, 1954, in Springbrook.

He is a veteran of the Navy Reserves.

He worked in the factory at Dubuque John Deere Tractor Works for 33 years. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 94.

He enjoyed being outdoors, working on the farm and loved to travel. He also loved playing baseball and fast-pitch softball.

Surviving are his wife, Lila; three children, Steven (Jean) Tigges, Laure (Marvin) Guy and Michael Tigges, all of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Christopher (Jenny), Jeffrey, Stephanie (Brett), Josh, Jamie and Tia; and four great-grandchildren, Drew, Gwen, Jayden and Riley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kristine Nelson and staff and the nurses and staff of Bethany Home for all the wonderful care and kindness they gave to Robert.
