An Old Settler Called

Mrs. Anne Catherine Lagen Passes to Her Final Reward at Early Hour Thursday.

Mrs. Anna Catherine Lagen, widow of the late Patrick Lagen, died at the family residence, 442 Iowa street, at 7 a.m. Thursday. Deceased was born in Lancaster, Pa., May 20, 1820, of German parentage. Her ancestors settled in Lancaster, Pa., one hundred and sixty-five years ago and were identified with the colonial history of Pennsylvania. Both grandfathers fought in the Revolution. The maiden name of deceased was Ann Catherine Dreppert and she was formerly a member of the Lutheran church but was a convert to the Catholic church, in which faith she died, fortified with its sacraments. Mrs. Lagen came to Dubuque in 1848 and has been a continuous resident since. Her life was one of Christian beauty and nobility and her presence a blessing to all who came in contact with her. A woman of strong character and upright honor her influence was all that was good and her death will be the occasion of a universal sentiment of regret throughout the community where she was so well and favorably known. Honored and respected the pioneer settler has gone to her final reward, held in esteem by all and in sacred memory by those nearest and dearest to her. Deceased is survived by her children, Bernard, John, Edward, Mrs. Joseph Warrning, Mary and Anne. She was the mother of the late George Lagen. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock.
