Christine A. Kemp

Christine A. "Teny" Kemp, 97, of 2700 Matthew John Drive, Apt. 144, formerly of 2273 Martin Drive, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at home, of natural causes.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 5 p.m.

She was born on March 14, 1913, in Dubuque, daughter of Nicholas and Catherine (Dordmont) Krier. She married Gene T. Kemp on Nov. 1, 1941, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on May 24, 1999.

Christine worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for five years, A.Y. McDonald Manufacturing Co. for two years, and then did tailor work for NuWay Cleaners for 18 years. She also worked in the hot lunch program at St. Mary's School for many years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its Rosary and Altar Society. She also was a member of the Eagles Club, the Eagles REAC Club, the Dubuque Boat Club, South End Club, American Legion Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus Council 5513.

Christine enjoyed hunting and fishing with Gene, traveling and camping. She and her husband helped organize the trips for the John Deere retirees. She was an accomplished seamstress and liked to sew. Her caregiver was Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Kruser. Her great-nephew, Robert Kruser Jr., and a great-niece, Mrs. Mark (Lisa) Hoppman, were by her side at the time of her death.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by six sisters, Mrs. Herman (Ann) Frommelt, Mrs. Allan (Mary) Freeze, Mrs. Milt (Maggie) Dolan, Mrs. Ed (Josie) Entringer, Mrs. Katherine Strand and Mrs. Hank (Melita) Faulhaber; two brothers, Anthony Krier and Joseph Krier; and a sister-in-law, Betty Grutz.

A Christine A. Kemp Memorial Fund has been established.
