Tony S. Saathoff, 47, of 105 W. 17th St., formerly of Hastings, Neb., died at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at The Finley Hospital.

Services will be at 7 p.m. today in Blades Hall Chapel at the University of Dubuque, where friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. today. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arraignments.

Tony was born on Sept. 7, 1955, in Hastings, son of Carl B. and Lois J. (Sigman) Saathoff. He married Roberta Congrove on Nov. 30, 1974.

Tony was the executive director for Public Ministry, a housing ministry for lower income people for the past two years. He also was involved in his studies at the University of Dubuque and in 10 days he would have received his master of arts in religion degree from the University of Dubuque Seminary.

He was a member of the Church of the Plains, Edgar, Neb., and an affiliate member of First Presbyterian Church, Hastings.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Roberta "Diane," his two daughters, Kelly (Brent) Anderson and Kristin Hastings, granddaughter, Courtney, grandson, Keifer, and his mother, Lois, all of Hastings; a sister, Carla (Randy) Gunn, of Grand Island, Neb., and a brother, Scott (Denise) Saathoff, of Fort Collins, Colo.; and three nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl, on Jan. 1, 2003; and a sister, Darci Dale Saathoff, in 1954.

In lieu of flowers, a Tony Saathoff Memorial Fund has been established.
