Francis L. Gregorich, 81, of Heritage Manor, Dubuque, formerly of Zwingle, Iowa, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Church, Sylvia Switch, rural Zwingle. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 528 of Cascade, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m. The pallbearers will be Jaret, Christopher and Matthew Puetz, Dennis Thul Jr., David Theisen and Roger Denlinger.

Mr. Gregorich farmed all his life in the Zwingle and Bernard, Iowa, area.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1922, in Bernard, son of Matt and Mary (Sturbens) Gregorich. He married Margaret Mary Theisen on Sept. 8, 1953, at St. Joseph Prairie Church, Zwingle; she died on April 10, 1984.

He received his education at St. Patrick's, Garryowen, Iowa.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 528 of Cascade.

He was an avid gardener and loved to share his harvest with his friends and family.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Betty Ambrosy, of Dubuque, Raymond (Theresa) Gregorich, of Zwingle, and Patricia (Carl) Puetz, of Bernard; nine grandchildren, Jaret, Christopher, Matthew, Tabitha, Angela, Jenni, Jodi, Staci and Dennis; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Leah; two sisters, Rita (Paul) Hoffman, of Freeport, and Lucille Donovan, of Bernard; two sisters-in-law, Delores Gregorich, of Dubuque, and Mayme Gregorich, of Preston; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Mary; a son, Charles; a daughter, Nancy; his brothers, George, Albert, Jim, John and Tony; two sisters, Helen Gregorich and Cecelia Ahern Carew; three brothers-in-law, Walter Ahern, Arnold Donovan and Louis Theisen; and a sister-in-law, Bertilla Jentz.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Heritage Manor for their love and care for Francis. Also, to Dr. Iverson and the nursing staff who cared for Francis at The Finley Hospital.
