Raymond J. Henkels, 72, of 1695 Mount Pleasant, Dubuque, formerly of Holy Cross, Iowa, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Zinkula officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Luxemburg, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, Iowa, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. and a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary at 8 p.m. Friends also may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Henkels farmed in the rural Holy Cross area.

He was born on Nov. 1, 1930, in Holy Cross, son of Ervin and Clara (Pottebaum) Henkels.

He was a member of Holy Cross Parish and its Holy Name Society. He also was a member of the New Vienna (Iowa) Court of Catholic Order of Foresters. He served as secretary of the Holy Cross Fire Department Association for many years.

Surviving are two brothers, Joe (Jeanette) Henkels, of Dubuque, and Ervin (Mary) Henkels, of Hiawatha, Iowa; two sisters, Eldora Ploessl, of Holy Cross, and Anna Marie (Joe) Wille, of Garnavillo, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Emmet Henkels; and a brother-in-law, Francis Ploessl.

A Raymond J. Henkels Memorial Fund has been established.
