Freda L. Thompson, 97, of Bethany Home, formerly of 2015 Pasadena Drive, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Bethany Home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

She was born on April 27, 1905, daughter of Carl and Mary (Lubben) Maurer. Freda spent her first seven years in Delaware County, until she moved to Dubuque in 1912.

She married Earl Thompson on April 9, 1931, in Dubuque; he passed away in 1968.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and American Lutheran Christian Women's Organization.

Freda enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching and helping others. Freda had been a longtime volunteer at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

Surviving are a daughter, BettyMae Thompson, of Dubuque; a son, Gene (Karen) Thompson, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Julie (Loras) Lahr, of Dyersville, Iowa, James (Jill) Thompson, of Merritt Island, Fla., Terrance (Donna) Thompson, of Dubuque and GlenNiece (Jon) Kutsch, of Victoria, Minn.; 19 great-grandchildren; and three nieces.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Emmanuel and Charles Maurer; and three sisters, Amy Hacker, Mollie Kulow and Marie Zemanek.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens and to the Make a Wish Foundation.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Home for all the great care they provided.
