Mrs. LaVerne "Sparky" (Kathryn "Kate") Schonhoff, 85, of ManorCare Health Services, formerly of Menominee, Ill., died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003, at ManorCare.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, Menominee, with the Rev. Ted Lewandowski officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where members of the St. Ann's Society will recite the rosary at 4:30 p.m.; members of the East Dubuque American Legion Post 787 will meet at 6:45 p.m.; and a parish scripture service will be at 7 p.m.

She was born on July 17, 1918, in Menominee Township, Jo Daviess County, daughter of Henry and Mary (Timpe) Ricke. She married LaVerne "Sparky" Schonhoff on June 30, 1942, at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, Menominee.

She was a member of Nativity BVM Parish and attended school in Menominee. She was a caring and loving housewife, enjoyed her grandchildren and loved a good game of euchre with her card club.

Surviving are her husband, LaVerne "Sparky" Schonhoff, two sons, Loran (Mary Ellen) Schonhoff and Howard and (Jan) Schonhoff, all of Menominee; three grandchildren, Jeff (Jennifer) Schonhoff, Neil Schonhoff and Lori (Jeff) Wienen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Helen Miller, Ethel Gable and Lucille Burroughs; and two brothers, Rueben Ricke and Albertus "Mike" Ricke.

Thank-you to the ManorCare staff for the excellent care given to Kate the last 31/2 years.
