Duane M. Goedken, 77, of 65 Oak Grove Drive, died Saturday evening, March 22, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, l640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 5 p.m. Friends also may call from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Goedken retired from John Deere Dubuque Works in 1989.

He was born on Jan. 5, 1926, in Dubuque, son of Ludwig and Reinilda (Lehmann) Goedken.

He married Carolyn Becker on June 9, 1951. He married Marion Wiley on Nov. 29, 1975; she died on May 30, 1990.

Duane served in the Army during World War II, earning several commendations. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and the American Legion. Duane loved the outdoors, euchre, discussing politics, reading and telling stories. He also loved to spend time with his family.

Surviving are his children, Debbie (Gary) Anglin, of Dubuque, Sandy (Mike) Chapman, of East Dubuque. Ill., and Steve (Denise) Goedken, Diane (Ken) Anglin, Randy Goedken and Lori (Barry) Brillhart, all of Dubuque; his former wife, Carolyn Becker Goedken, of Dubuque; a stepson, Mike (SheRee) Kenneally, of Dubuque; a stepdaughter, Sherrie (Jim) Tomkins, of Dubuque; grandchildren, Kevin (Angie) Anglin, Angie (Rich) Anglin, Nathan, Christina (Umid) and Charlie Chapman, Nick, Andy, and Cody Goedken, Lisa and Julie Anglin and Brandon Brillhart; step grandchildren, Sean (Jodi) Kennealy, Melissa and Pat Tomkins, and Mike and Paul Brillhart; great-grandchildren, Michael Anglin, Jakob and Garrett Chapman and Brooklyn Goedken; stepgreat-grandchildren, Bailey, Marion and Mallory; brothers, Francis (Esther) Goedken, of Zwingle, Iowa, Dick (Marlene) Goedken, of Dickeyville, Wis., and John Goedken, of Dubuque; a sister, Jannan (Jim) Vogt, of Dubuque; sisters-in-law, Ann Goedken, of Dubuque, and Bonnie (Jerry) Ready, of Vincennes, Ind.; brothers-in-law, Melvin Miller, of Norfolk, Neb., and Harry Hubbard, of Elkader, Iowa; and special friends, Al and Carol Errthum.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Abby Goedken; three brothers, Vernon, Melvin and Herb; and a sister, Delores Miller.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Mercy Hospital.
