Al M. Didesch, 70, of 915 Kane St., died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a rosary and wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Didesch owned and operated the former Didesch Funeral Home at 1300 Main St., Dubuque, and Till-Didesch Funeral Home, Cascade, Iowa, and the Didesch Funeral Home, La Motte, Iowa.

He was born on Sept. 2, 1932, son of Al M., Sr. and Marie (Voelker) Didesch. He married Gladys Lansing on Oct. 12, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956.

He graduated in 1954 from Loras College with a degree in English. He then graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago in 1957.

He was a former member of the National Funeral Director Association and the Iowa Funeral Director Association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 510 in Dubuque. He was an avid Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers and Green Bay Packers Fan.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys, of Dubuque; a son, Alan (Laurie) Didesch, of Northbrook, Ill.; a daughter, Debra (Glen) Schumock, and their children Collin, Grant and Ava, all of Geneva, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Leonard (Dolores) Owsley, of Dubuque; and his faithful dog, Boo.

An Al M. Didesch Memorial Fund has been established.
