Funeral services for Laurene E. Garms were held Monday, March 23, 11 a.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiated. Burial in Smithfield Cemetery, Volney, Iowa. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona in charge of services.

Laurene E. (Rose) Garms was born December 12, 1925 in rural Allamakee County near Volney, IA to parents Dell and Sara Cowell Rose. She was baptized and confirmed at Volney Methodist Church. She received her education in Luana school.

On December 30, 1949 Laurene was married to Robert C. Garms at the Lutheran Parsonage in West Union. They were the parents of two sons. The couple lived in Dubuque since December 7, 1950. She died at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, March 19, following a sudden illness. She was gifted with artistic talent and was widely known for her sand paintings.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Mark Alan, who died July 28, 1963; six brothers, Raymond, Harold, Robert, Delbert, James and Joseph; two sisters, Bernita Siverly and Delores Rose.

Surviving is her husband Robert; one son Dan (Jeanne) Garms of Barrington, IL; two grandsons, Gabe and Matt, and two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Schlitter of Monona and Mrs. Carole Huseman of Dubuque.

Pallbearers were Tom Rose, Cletus Rose, Tom Looney, John Garms, Jeff Hildebrand and Robert "Rex" Rechsteiner.
