Norma Hilkin

Norma Hilkin, 82, of Bethany Home, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 2, 1927, in rural Bellevue, Iowa, the only daughter of Ross and Kathryn Jackson. She married Charles A. Hilkin on Oct. 20, 1948, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue; he preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1994. They had shared 46 happy years of marriage.

She was employed at the former Roshek Department Store for many years and then as a homemaker.

Norma was a member of Holy Trinity parish and its Rosary Society and a former member of Nativity parish and its Rosary Society. She also was a member of John Deere Local 94 Women's Auxiliary, the American Legion Unit 6 Women's Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother.

Surviving are her five children, Mary (Alan LaPage) Davis, of Epworth, Iowa, and Theresa Saul, Thomas (Denise) Hilkin, Cynthia (Merlin) Fangman and Michelle (Scott) Muntz, all of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren, David (Melynn) and Joe Davis, Vickie, Charlie and Jeffrey Saul, Dan (Cindy) Hilkin, Annie Hilkin, and Cory, Jessica and Cody Muntz; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville Jackson, of Bellevue; and sisters-in-law, Alice Jackson, of Galena, Ill., and Mathilda Schumacher, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her oldest son, Lawrence A. Hilkin, who died on Easter Sunday 1969, bravely fighting for his country in Vietnam; an infant daughter, Kathryn; her parents; and four brothers, Ralph, Imo, Ernie and Archie Jackson.
