Sherry Lynn Merz, 39, of 948 12th Street NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, died at 5:54 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at home after a short battle with cancer.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque.

She was born on Nov. 18, 1963, in Dubuque, daughter of Oliver J. and Rae M. (Bisdorf) Merz.

Sherry attended Dubuque Senior High School. After moving to Cedar Rapids she was employed as a clerk in a convenience store. She was an avid camper and animal lover. She had several exotic animal pets that she cared for. Sherry babysat in her home for her friend's children. She also was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan.

Surviving are her parents, Oliver and Rae Merz, of Dubuque, three sisters, Doris M. (Don) Capaul, of Epworth, Iowa, and Pat A. (Bill) Root and Beth K. (Mike) Hanson, both of Dubuque; two brothers, John J. (Sandy) Merz, of Buffalo, Minn., and Greg S. Merz (Laura Senica), of Cedar Rapids. her grandmother, Myrtle Bisdorf, of Dubuque; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Jo Merz; and a nephew, Cody Hanson

A Sherry Lynn Merz Memorial Fund has been established.
