Mary C. Cullen

Mary R.(sic) Cullen, 81, of 3020 Lindale St., died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Resurrection Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on June 10, 1928, in Dubuque, daughter of Michael and Ruth (Willman) Ewert. She married John G. Cullen on May 6, 1950, in Dubuque; he preceded her in death on March 5, 1978.

Mary graduated from St. Columbkille's High School. She worked part-time for Weber Paper Co. for many years.

She was an active member of Resurrection Parish and was an associate member of the Sisters of the Presentation.

Surviving are four children, Jeanne (Kevin) Coogan, of Buffalo Grove, Ill., Dr. Joseph (Laura) Cullen, of Iowa City, Dianne (Carl) Wickman, of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Jacquie Cullen, of Vernon Hills, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Matt and Erin Coogan, Jessica, Brendon and Meredith Cullen, and Lauren and Erik Wickman; a brother, the Rev. J. Michael Ewert, of Sherman, Ill.; her in-laws, Joe (Emmie) Cullen, of Reno, Nev., Pat (Alan) Cullen Spensley, of Dubuque, Lois (Tom) Alt Hendricks, of Florida, Jerry (Pat) Cullen, of Platteville, Wis., Mary Ann (Jim) Reilly, of Shullsburg, Wis., Geraldine Cullen and Bill (Betty) Cullen, both of Darlington, Wis., Peggy (Clete) Dalsing, of Dubuque, and Bill Steil, of Dodgeville, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her in-laws, Kate Glab Geisler, Pat Cullen Smith, Thomas Cullen, Daniel Cullen and Helen Cullen Steil.

Memorials may be given to the Franciscan Friars, Sisters of the Presentation and the Church of the Resurrection.
