Mrs. Robert (Ruth A.) Winders, 68, of 601½ Rhomberg Ave., died at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at home, following a long illness, surrounded by her family.

Chapel services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

She was born on March 20, 1934, in Dubuque, daughter of John and Rose (Lesser) Wissing. She married Robert C. Winders on Sept. 26, 1964, in Asbury, Iowa.

Ruth was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. In her early life, Ruth worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co., before becoming a full-time wife and mother.

She enjoyed playing euchre, collecting and doing crossword puzzles and crypto-grams.

Surviving are her husband, Robert C. Winders; three daughters, Lynn (Dennis) Bell, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Beth Winders and Patricia (Eugene) Schmitt, both of Dubuque; three sons, Mark (Lori) Loso, Martin (Linda) Loso and Mitchell (Linda) Loso, all of Dubuque; four stepsons, James (Diane) Winders, Randy Winders and Daniel Winders, all of Dubuque, and Mitchell Winders, of New London, Ontario, Canada; 29 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Celeste Wissing, of Fairplay, Wis., and Marcella (Eldon) Heer, of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, Duane Horton, of East Dubuque, Ill.; and 26 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert C. Winders Jr., in infancy, and Michael H. Loso; a grandson, Jason L. Loso; four brothers, William, Carl, Harold and Robert Wissing; three sisters, Rose Walsh, Dorothy Baldwin and Elizabeth Horton; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Sylvia Winders.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of Dubuque, especially Rose and Sheila, and also Dr. T. Schreiber and Dr. K. Payne for their compassion and professionalism.
