Virginia Schnepf, Ph.D., 86, of Bethany Home, Dubuque, formerly of East Moline, Ill., and Sunset Park Assisted Living, Dubuque, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Bethany Home.

Graveside services and burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in Mount Harmony Cemetery, near Elkport, Iowa. There will be no visitation. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on March 15, 1916, in Garber, Iowa, the only child of Arthur and Laura (Waterman) Schnepf.

She attended grade school and high school in Algona, Iowa, and Minnesota. She completed her bachelor of arts degree in political science in August 1948, at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She taught in the Moline Public School System; State University College, Fredonia, New York; in Northern Michigan; summer school in the state of Wyoming; the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls; and the University of Illinois. She received her doctorate at the University of Chicago, and retired as a professor of curriculum and instruction at Illinois State University at Normal, on Jan. 1, 1983.

Virginia was very interested in pursuing the genealogy of her family. She was formerly a member of Dubuque Business and Professional Women. Prior to moving to Bethany Home, she enjoyed traveling with Friendship Force and with her cousin, Marie Adams, with whom she traveled to Japan, England and out west.

Surviving are cousins in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be given to Illinois State University at Normal, or send them in c/o Rosann Fiedler, 7069 N. Menominee Road, East Dubuque, Ill. 61025-9745 and it will be forwarded to the university.

Virginia's cousins, Marie Adams and Rosann Fiedler, would like to thank Dr. Kirkendall and all the staff at Bethany Home for their special care of Virginia.
