Clyde Melvin Kruse

ELKADER, Iowa -- Clyde Melvin Kruse, 65, of Elkader, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, following a long illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 30, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, with the Rev. L.R. Lechner officiating. Burial will be in Garnavillo Community Cemetery, Garnavillo. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Garnavillo. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

He was born on Jan. 11, 1944, near Garber, son of Alfred and Anita (Hakert) Kruse, Jan. 11, 1944. He received his education from Garnavillo High School.

He married Janet Wagner on May 9, 1970, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Garber.

Clyde served his country in the Army from 1965 to 1967, with a tour in Vietnam.

He was a retired farmer who enjoyed fishing, traveling, cooking, baking and harvesting walnuts.

Clyde was a member of Clay-Gar American Legion Post 723.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet; a daughter, Heidi (Justin Snelson) Kruse, of Lakeview, Minn.; a son, Chad (Tara) Kruse, of Peosta; two grandchildren, Alyssa Kruse and Paige Kruse; a sister, Arlene (Carrol) Harbaugh, of Garnavillo; a brother, Curtis (Lucinda) Kruse, of Calmar; a sister-in-law, Julie (Matthew) Cayler; and three brothers-in-law, Clyde (Peggy) Wagner, Thomas (Annette) Wagner and Dale (Debra) Wagner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Clarence and Hilda Wagner; and a brother, Clark.
