Dubuque Weekly Times, October 3, 1861.

Michael Stahle-
Died, in Dubuque, Sept. 18th, Michael Stahle, aged 72 years. Mr. Stahle was a native of France, and one of the “Old Guard of Napoleon.” He entered the Imperial Army when 19 years old and fought through all the closing campaigns of Napoleon’s career, and gained the cross of the Legion of Honor. Although exposed to many battle fields, among them some of the most destructive ever fought in Europe. He came from all, even from the field of Waterloo, unharmed. He was a very quiet, retiring man, and said so little of his military experience, that few knew that he once belonged to the most celebrated military corps of modern days. He leaves one child, our fellow citizen, Mr. Geo. Stahle, with whom he resided at the time of his death.
