Carl R. Kieffer, 68, of 208 Fremont St., Boscobel, Wis., formerly of Dubuque, died at 9:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Boscobel Area Health Care.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Kieffer officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where there will be a flag presentation by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. Private family visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Kieffer worked at Interstate Power Co. for 41 years, retiring in 1996.

He was born on Nov. 3, 1934, in Dubuque, son of Paul and Vivian (Sullivan) Kieffer. He married Evelyn Martin on Dec. 15, 1990, at Luther Manor Chapel.

He was a graduate of the former Loras Academy. He lived in Dubuque until moving to Boscobel in 1997.

He was a Korean War Navy veteran. He was a former member of the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. He loved to sing and was an avid gardener and Hawkeye fan.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Karil (William) Ferriman, of Oklahoma, and Karin (Keith) Hoftender, of East Dubuque, Ill.; four sons, Curtis, Patrick, Timothy and Russell Gaherty; a stepdaughter, Sue Dull, of Boscobel; a stepson, Jay Anderson, of Fennimore, Wis.; granddaughters, Janie (Grant) Cook, of Newport News, Va., and Shelly Whelan, of East Dubuque; grandsons, Benjamin Whelan, of Muskogee, Okla., and Clayton Whelan, of East Dubuque; step-grandchildren, Shyla Anderson, of Fennimore, Wis., and Justin and Jonathan Dull, of Boscobel; two sisters, Marilyn Welter, of East Dubuque, and JoAnn (Cyril) Fries, of Dubuque; and two brothers, the Rev. Kenneth Kieffer, of Oceanside, Calif., and Richard Kieffer, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty; and a brother, Gerald.

A Carl R. Kieffer Memorial Fund has been established.
