Ernest F. Jogerst

Ernest F. Jogerst, 84, of 1005 Lincoln Ave., formerly of 2645 Renaissance Drive, died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, at Bethany Home.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Family and friends are welcome at the committal service at noon, Tuesday, July 1, at Mount Calvary Chapel, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6.

He was born on May 31, 1924, in Dubuque, son of Ernest F. and Maxelinda (Kleinschmiet) Jogerst Sr. He married Marie E. Purcell on Aug. 7, 1954, at the Church of the Nativity.

He attended Stanford University and the University of Arkansas, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor of arts degree in business.

Ernest served in the Army, 99th Infantry Division (The Battle Babies) in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.

He was employed as manager of the Dubuque office of Dun & Bradstreet for eight years. He then joined the Wm. C. Brown Co., where he served as vice president and director, and president of its Kendall/Hunt Publishing Co. subsidiary. He retired on Dec. 31, 1986.

During his career, he was a member of and served as an officer in several local civic, service and fraternal organizations.

Surviving are his wife, Marie E. Jogerst; four sisters-in-law, Rita Purcell and Gladys Purcell, both of Dubuque, Margaret Connor, of West Burlington, Iowa, and Kitty Novis, of Great Falls, Mont.; a brother-in-law, James (Betty) Purcell, of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, John Ernest Jogerst; three sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Janann "Nan") Ball, Mrs. Edward N. (Mary Maxine "Miki") Dougherty and Mrs. Harold (Rosemary "Ro") Petsch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, IA 52002 and to Bethany Home, 1005 Lincoln Ave., Dubuque, IA 52001
