Dorothy E. Breitbach

Dorothy E. (Welu) Breitbach, 84, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of Windsor Park Apartments, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Stonehill Care Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today, at Egelhof, Siegert, & Casper Westview Funeral home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m.

She was born Oct. 11, 1923, in Dubuque, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Spautz) Theobald. Dorothy graduated from Immaculate Conception High School.

She married R. Jack Welu in 1947, at Sacred Heart Church; he preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1971. She then married Donald R. Breitbach on May 22, 1980, at Sacred Heart Church; he preceded her in death on June 3, 2001.

Dorothy worked as a book keeper for Molo Oil Company and Fisher Oil Company. She was also a ward clerk at the former Xavier Hospital.

She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church.

Surviving are two children, Lisa (Ron) Bock and Tim (Sue) Welu, both of Dubuque; five stepchildren, Julie (Ted) Burgmeier, of East Dubuque, Ill., Teri Jean (Mick Motyko) Breitbach, of North Liberty, Iowa, Jeff (Carrie) Breitbach, of Dubuque, Jim Breitbach, of Erie, Colo., and Tim Breitbach, of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, Aaron and Luke Bock, and Ty, Tim and Molly Welu;

16 step grandchildren, Christopher (Katie) Burgmeier, Sarah (Tony) Bleything, Stephanie (Jon) Ludovissy, John Burgmeier, Gino (Cate), Jocko, and Tony, Motyko, Ashli, Abby, Alyssa, Jeffrey, Molly, Connor, and Jessica, Nicole and Irene Breitbach; a brother, John (Irene) Theobald, of Dubuque; several brothers-and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joe Theobald; two step-sisters, Charlyn Martelle and Pat Jordan; and a half brother, Charles Cushing.

The family would like to thank the staff at Stonehill Care Center for their loving care.
