Mary F. Leitner

Mary F. Leitner, 91, of Dubuque Nursing & Rehab Center, formerly of 1621 Rhomberg Ave., died at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Dubuque Nursing & Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday, March 24. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1916, in Dubuque; daughter of George J. and Anna Marie (Sartor) Roepsch. She married Harold L. Leitner on July 3, 1935, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1997.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Rosary Society, where she formerly served as an officer. Mary also was a member of TOPS Club at Holy Trinity and a lifetime member of TOPS.

She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, especially her roses. She also liked Betty Boop.

Mary had a very fervent devotion to St. Anne, the grandmother of Jesus.

Her greatest joy was to be with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol A. (Dick) Tietjen, of Davenport, Iowa and Darlene R. (Arnie) Kaufmann, of Dubuque; a son, Harold G. "Harry" (Roann) Leitner, of Dubuque; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Leitner, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy, in infancy; a granddaughter, Diane Leitner; three brothers, George (Frances) Roepsch, Leo (Hazel) Roepsch and Joseph (Jean) Roepsch; and a sister, Margaret (Joe) Deggendorf.

The family would like to thank Rebecca and the nurses and staff of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab and the nurses and staff of Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care and concern for Mary.
