William F. Besler

William Frederick Besler, 81, of Dubuque, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at home following a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael's Cathedral. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Besler retired from River City Paving Co. He also spent many earlier years farming, working at the former Dubuque Packing Co., and Conlon Construction.

He was born on April 2, 1926, in Farley, son of Ignatz and Francis (Hoffman) Besler. He married Eileen Gassmann on Oct. 27, 1947, in Luxemburg; she preceded him in death.

He enjoyed playing cards, working, riding horses, spending time with family and friends, and occasionally sneaking down to the dog track.

He had a unique sense of humor and incredible work ethic. His way of expressing his love for his family and friends was his giving nature.

His greatest joy was his family. He loved his wife and missed her dearly every day.

Surviving are his son, Gary Besler, of Dubuque; two grandchildren, Shane (Andrea) Besler and their son, Keaton, of Dubuque, and Shanda (Eric) Munson and their son, Solen, of Chandler, Ariz.; his brother, John (Geri) Besler, of Dubuque; and his sister, Lucy Warsek, of Dubuque.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers; and sisters.

We have wonderful memories of your laughs and signature grins. We love you so much, will miss you everyday but find comfort knowing you are at peace again.
