Grace Brown

Grace Brown, 98, of The Gardens at St. Elizabeth, 2835 W. 32nd Ave., Denver, Colo., formerly of 555 W. 5th St., Dubuque, and Bernard, Iowa, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Life Care Center, Longmont, Colo.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be at wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Brown was a school teacher in Dubuque County, teaching first through eighth grades for four years. She then worked in sales at Neisner's 5 & 10 for 15 years.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1909, in Peosta, Iowa, daughter of James and Mary (Grace) Flynn. Grace graduated from high school in Ida Grove, Iowa.

She married Louis Brown on April 21, 1935, at Holy Family Catholic Church in New Melleray; he preceded her in death in October 1976.

She was a member of St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque, Queen of Peace Church in Aurora, Colo., and The Gardens at St. Elizabeth in Denver, Colo.

Surviving are two daughters, Rosemary (Loren) Wolter, of Venice, Fla., and Gerri (Lyle) Cahill, of Surprise, Ariz.; three sons, Bob Brown, of Westcliffe, Colo., C. Joe (Letty) Brown, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Tom (Sandi) Brown, of Hamilton, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Tony, Larry, Jerome and Romanus Wolter, Greg, Grace and Colleen Cahill, Melanie, Chrissy and Jeff Brown and Emily Brown; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Stella Polfer, of Arvada, Colo.

She also was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Thomas, James and Martin Flynn; and a daughter-in-law, Rachel Brown.
