Lorraine M. Schuster

Lorraine M. (Ryan) Schuster, 80, of 1659 South Grandview Ave., died at 7:40 am Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at Ennoble Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Key West, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

Mrs. Schuster worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1944 to 1954 and returned in 1963 to retire in 1986, as the installation and repair supervisor. Lorraine and Ray operated the former 12 Mile House, located in Bernard, Iowa, from 1953 to 1963.

She was born on May 7, 1927, in Peosta, Iowa, daughter of Edward and Callista (McCarthy) Ryan. She married Lorain "Ray" Schuster on June 16, 1951, at St. Joseph Church on the Prairie, near Zwingle, Iowa; he preceded her in death on July 4, 2006.

She graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque, class of 1944.

She was a member of the IC Alumni Association, Dubuque Telephone Pioneers, St. Raphael Cathedral Rosary Society and Luther Manor Auxiliary. She also belonged to the ACCW of Catholic Women.

Surviving are her son, Alan (Linda) Schuster, of Peosta; three grandsons, Jason (Jamie) Schuster, of Peosta, Brian (Anna) Schuster, of Grand Lake, Colo., and Kevin Schuster, of Peosta; two great-grandchildren, Valarie and Carmen; a brother, James (Rose) Ryan, of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, Charles Fangman, of Peoria, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Darlene Ryan, of Dubuque; and 38 nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Fangman; and a brother, Albert Ryan.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque and the nurses and staff of Ennoble Manor for all the care and kindness they gave to our mother and grandmother.
