Clara M. Spoden

Clara M. Spoden, 90, of 3730 Pennsylvania Ave., died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at home.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Park Place, 3730 Pennsylvania Ave. There will be no public visitation. According to Clara's wishes, her body was donated to the University of Iowa for medical research. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Spoden worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. and the Dubuque Battery Factory.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1917, in Sherrill, Iowa, daughter of Herman and Barbara (Reuter) Nauman. She married Peter A. Spoden in April 1939, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sherrill; he preceded her in death on April 4, 1954.

Clara was a member of the Eagles Club and a former member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
She was an avid euchre player.

Surviving are three children, Celestine "Sally" Reardon, of Dubuque, Diane (Buzz) Ball, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and James (Mary) Spoden, of Dyersville, Iowa; her grandchildren, Stephen, Scott and Peter Spoden, Stephanie Rosenberg, Gerald Ball Jr. and Laurie Gibbs; eight great-grandchildren; and 13 brothers and sisters, Millie (Robert) Wirzbach, Greg Nauman, Henry (Eileen) Nauman, LaVonne Hoffman, Herman (Marge) Nauman Jr. and Lucille Beau, all of Dubuque, Norb Nauman, of Franklinton, La., John Nauman, of St. Donatus, Iowa, Gerry (Loras) Frieberger, of Des Moines, Teresa Kroll, of Lake Zurich, Ill., Agnes (Robert) O'Neill, of Janesville, Wis., Adele (George) Peters, of De Witt, Iowa, and Margaret "Dolly" (Ken) Ziegenfuss, of Delhi, Iowa.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Peter J. Spoden; a great-grandson, Steven Holcomb; a brother, Eldon Nauman; two sisters, Sr. Eleanore, OSF and Marion Bales; and a son-in-law, Willie Reardon.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
The family wishes to extend a thank-you to the staffs at The Finley Hospital, Hospice of Dubuque and Sunset Park Place.
