Edward Joseph Lenz Sr

Edward Joseph Lenz Sr., 61, of 708 Kane St., died at 4:55 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ardel Barta officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where a wake service also was held.

Mr. Lenz owned and operated Lenz Monument in Dubuque. He began his career working with his uncle, Ed Lenz, and his grandfather, continuing the family monument business that began in 1876.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1946, in Dubuque, son of Francis and Ann (Hefel) Lenz. He graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1969.

He married Mary Barbara O'Connell on June 27, 1970, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was a member of the Dubuque Business Men's Association.

Eddie loved spending time with his family, especially cooking dinner with his family on Sunday nights, spending time in his backyard and gardening. He enjoyed fishing and his trips to Florida.

Surviving are his wife, M. Barbara; three children, Laura, Lisa and Edward Joseph "Joe" Lenz Jr.; a granddaughter, Frances; and his sister, Linda (Tom) Buelow, all of Dubuque; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thank-you to the Mercy Medical Center nurses and staff, especially, 3 West, and to Dr. Mark Runde, Dr. Laurie Garms, Dr. Scott Brock and Dr. Michael Scott for all the loving care they gave to Eddie and his family.
