Funeral services for Ferna M. Turner of McGregor were held Saturday, July 30, 1990 at 10:00 a.m. in the Schutte Funeral Home at Postville and 2:00 p.m. in the St. John Lutheran Church at Dubuque. The Rev. Julius Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa.
Ferna Melissa Turner, daughter of Wilber J. and Laura E. (Dodge) Bennett, was born October 28, 1904 in Winchester, WI. She died Wednesday, June 27, 1990 in the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa.
Ferna was baptized into the Lutheran faith as an infant. She attended school at Winneconne, WI.
On June 17, 1926 she was married to Arthur W. Turner at Oshkosh, WI. She was the church organist for the church they attended. They lived in Wisconsin for several years. She lived in Dubuque for many years, where she was employed by the Dubuque Packing Company. The also lived in the Castalia and Postville areas for the last several years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, who died Dec. 14, 1950, a granddaughter, Lisa Brincks, a brother, Norman Bennett and a sister, Ione Fritz.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Sylvia M. Bressler of Mayer, AZ, and Elva Brincks of Postville, 2 foster children whom she raised, John E. Oertel, Sr. of Eldridge, IA and Mrs. Ray (Darlene) Reynolds of Dubuque; 6 grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren and a sister, Joyce Eick of Appleton, WI.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.
Casket Bearers: Larry Krugger, Rick Tuecke, Keith Turner, Bill Fritz, Charles Laugesen and Ray Reynolds.
