Rost George Kaune Sr.

Rost George Kaune Sr., 85, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Dubuque, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at his home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Cook-Walden Capital Parks, Pflugerville, Texas.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1921, in Dubuque, son of George and Selma Kaune. He married Jane Ellwanger in 1946.

Rost joined the Army during World War II and spent his time in Africa and Italy until the end of the war.

He was employed at the Dubuque Packing Company for 43 years, retiring in 1982. He moved to Austin in 1984.

Surviving are his wife, Jane; his brothers, Daniel and David, of Dubuque; sons, Rost, Jr. and Lynn, of Austin, Paul and Joanne, of Dover, Pa., Mark and Diane, of Grovetown, Ga., Scott and Nancy, of Gales Ferry, Conn., Andrew and Jenny, of Phoenix, and Craig, of Dubuque; daughters, Tracy and Raul Sosa, of Austin, and Penny and Robert DeGroat, of Fairview, N.C.; and a daughter-in-law, Jan, of Coupland, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lucille Gatena; a brother, Merlin; a beloved son, Brant; and a grandson, Raul, Jr.
