On Thursday afternoon, May 23, at Dubuque, there occurred a wedding ceremony that was a genuine surprise to our citizens and united the hearts of two of our most estimable young people. Last week Miss May D. Fulner took a short vacation from her duties at the millinery store and went to Dubuque as her friends supposed to visit friends, but imagine their surprise when on Friday morning she returned in company with Charles P. Smith, and informed them that congratulations were in order for they had been united in marriage at half past two o’clock Thursday afternoon. Of the contracting parties but little needs to be said, for both are widely known in this locality and have the esteem of all who know them.
Charlie is one of our upright, honorable young men who has the confidence and friendship of all who know him, for by his principals he has built himself a reputation that is well worthy emulation. For a number of years past he has been in the employ of the C. M. & St. Paul R. R., and is at present firing an engine with headquarters at Dubuque.
May has been a lifelong resident of this place and from early childhood has been one of the favorites in society. Her stainless character and amiable ways have made for her friends wherever she went, and they are almost numberless. Her ambitious nature would not allow her to sit idle and of late she has been connected with the millinery firm of Fulner & Watson, in this city, where she still retains her interest.-Sabula Gazette.
Miss Fulner has a number of warm friends in this city that will delight to send congratulation.
