RIVER NEWS
Three rafts from the Wisconsin River passed down yesterday. From the pilot of one of them we learn that the Viola, which sank some three weeks ago above McGregor, still lies under water, with her smoke stack, and part of the cabin exposed. She is in the channel and liable to be ran a foul of at any time during the night. He also informed us that when he came down the Wisconsin two weeks ago, the water was within four feet of the highest mark ever known on the river. Since then it fell, but reports yesterday stated that it was again on the rise. In running under the bridge at Mosanee, the water was so near the bridge that the men had to lie down in passing under. One man was dragged overboard but was rescued at a dam not a great distance below the bridge. The high water very materially interferes with the running of rafts, and has swept away large quantities of logs.
