Bishop Loras of Dubuque, left Lyons, France for this place on the 1st instant. He brings with him several priests besides other religious teachers of some monastic order. One of his objects in visiting Europe was to procure funds for the erection of the Cathedral in this city. there is good reason to expect that his visit was successful , and that his work will go on during the coming season.

It is also intimated that the Bishop attends to fund a college at the Table Mound. The location is a desirable one for a literary institution, And with an efficient faculty, it would soon become a useful auxiliary in the acquisition of knowledge. In a few weeks we shall be able to speak with more certainty on these matters, as by that time the Bishop will be here in person.
