Narrow Escape

Yesterday afternoon Henry Devilly, a boy of about nine years of age, parentalive on 17th Street, near Clay, fell into Bee Branch near the 5th Ward School, while trying to catch something floating in it. The water was deep and the current made strong by the flood, and the little fellow was swept away and would have been lost if not for John Moran, the teamster, who rescued him and carried him in his arms to his home. The poor little fellow had swallowed a lot of dirty nasty water and was insensible. A physician was called and gave an emetic to relieve his stomach of the foul water, after which he appeared to rest. The poor little fellow had a narrow escape.
