Crawford County Bulletin, Thursday, Nov 20, 1873, Denison, IA Page: 2

A whiskey murder was perpetrated recently, near Dubuque, Iowa. It seems that two men, named Gardner and Delharty, were proceeding home together, when a quarrel arose between them, and Gardner attacked Delharty, and threw him down, when Delharty drew a pocket knife and plunged it into the former’s bowels, and drew it loose wise, so that the intestines protruded. Gardner lived ten or twelve hours, when death came to his relief. Liquor is said to have been at the bottom of the difficulty.
