One More of the Lost Found

Willing hands yesterday continued the search for the Rockdale victims, but were rewarded for the labors only by the finding of one body, that of little Minnie Bowers, which was found a mile and a half below the scene of the disaster. All day a party of men from the county industriously searched for the body of Richard Burke, but without success. It is possible and perhaps very probable that the mud now conceals some of those who are lost and it may be sometime before they are recovered. Coroner Coakley who has done all in his power to assuage the grief of sorrowing friends by having the bodies of their loved one recovered, has employed an experienced man to search the stream from the ruins of the village to the Mississippi River until the bodies are found, or it becomes a helpless effort to find them. It is indeed to be hoped that all the bodied may be speedily recovered. And now why we are still touching this painful subject it is only simple justice that we should do what in the confusion attending the care of the bodies Wednesday could not be done. We mean publishing the names of the great-hearted, charitable, Christian women and men, during that trying day, recovered those thirty-one bodies from the stream, and washed them and cared for them as if they were united to them by ties of relationship. No words of praise could be extravagant when spoken of such noble deeds. Words are no recompenses for such services as they rendered, but duty to our own feelings and a spirit of justice prompts us to publish this.
