LOSS IS HEAVY
~
Farmers Creamery at Cascade Township
Destroyed By Flames Wednesday Night
~
Cascade, Iowa Jan 1, - An alarm of fire yesterday evening brought all the citizens out of doors and the glare of the flames drew them to the scene of the blaze. It proved to be the Farmers Creamery plant on the out skirts of the city and by the time the fire department and other citizens arrived the structure was beyond saving. Indeed the interior was a roaring furnace and the flames were burning through the roof before the fire was discovered.

The fire was said to be caused by a defective chimney and burned fiercely until only the ruins of a once prosperous plant remained. The loss is estimated at about $5,000, which was partly covered by insurance of $2,000. The loss would have been much greater if the fire occurred yesterday as the plant had turned out a large quantity of creamery products, which were shipped that night.

The creamery was owned by farmers in this vicinity and was finely and modernly equipped in every particular. While everything is a total loss the managers of the place said after the fire it would be undoubtedly rebuilt as soon as possible. It was a prosperous industry and to lose it would be a blow to Cascade business interests.
