Work on the new $75,000 addition to Mt. St. Joseph’s Academy on Seminary Hill, which has been in progress during the summer, is now nearing completion and the building will soon be ready for occupancy. The new addition lies west of the main entrance to the academy proper, and will contain a chapel, recitation rooms and sleeping rooms for the advanced students. It will be equipped with all the latest appliances and when completed the sisters of Mt. St. Joseph’s will have one of the best equipped young ladies’ seminary in the United States. The attendance at the academy this year has been much larger than previous years and it is because of the steady increase the sisters found it necessary to build the large addition to the academy.

A short distance west of the seminary another building is in process of erection. This is the Mother house of the Sisters of the Holy Ghost. It is a large three story basement structure and will be ready for occupancy Jan. 1st. At present the building is under roof and the interior is being plastered and finished up as rapidly as possible.

These two handsome structure plus the beautiful church edifices erected for St. Anthony’s parish, have added much to the appearance of that part of West Dubuque and will do much for the increasing property in that section of West Dubuque.

Besides the above mentioned contracts, which are now nearing completion, is the western part of the town, there are a number of other structures in course of erection in other parts of the city. The most important of these is the new German Bank building on Main Street, near Third; a large addition to the Adam’s Bros. Foundry; the Eagle Point and Wisconsin high bridge and numerous residences and other improvements in other parts of the city. The addition to the Government Building on Ninth and Locust Streets is now completed and ready for occupancy and workmen are engaged in excavating for the foundation of the Carneige Stout Library structure which will be one of the handsomest structures in the city when completed and an addition to the Dubuque Malting Company’s bottling plant will be completed in a few weeks.

The building that is now under way in Dubuque along with those structures that have been completed within the past few months represents the investment of hundreds and thousands of dollars of home capital.
