THE NEW CITY DIRECTORY – The new city directory for 1865-66 is now in the hands of the binder and will be ready in a few days for delivery to advertisers and new purchasers. Besides a brief description of the city it contains over 4,000 names of citizens, 162 well-arranged advertisements, good articles on the lead interest, the railroads, schools, officers of the city government from 1844-1866, besides a full business directory of the city.

By the directory it appears that 17 firms of butchery meat the people, 7 bakery see the people are well bred, and 13 firms clothe them, 9 brewers and distillers furnish the ardent, 9 druggist firms furnish medicines under the prescriptions of 19 physicians for the “ills that ? its heirs to;” 6 printing establishments furnish intellectual pabulum for the public, 13 insurance agents take risks on lives or property, and 43 lawyers attend to the legal and illegal doings of the people while they live and are ready to look after their estates when dead, 13 real estate dealers are named who would like commissions of selling half the twice a week at fair prices and see that the” abstract chronicles” conveyance man were correct. Ten lumber firms furnish materials for the houses of the living, while two firms are only engaged on monuments for the dead. Eight tellers give their customers fits, 17 hotels take in strangers and do well for them, while 49 retail grocers furnish provisions for those “who can’t live in a hotel.” Four firms cover the head with hats and caps, while it takes 12 firms to cover the feet with boots and shoes. Seven bankers can attend to the pocket interest of their customers, while it requires eight barbers to attend to the moustache and whiskers department.
