Davis was taken to Finley Hospital and an operation performed. He will recover.

He set out for an island across the river where he had intended to hunt. While running in order to catch up with several companions who started in advance of him he slipped. In falling he dropped his rifle, which struck the ice and discharged.

None of his friends were nearby at the time. Davis rose and walked home without assistance.
