The Herald, Dubuque, Sunday, March 19, 1869

THE SHOOTING AFFRAY – The Ballyclough shooting affray, of which we gave full particulars yesterday, continued to create great excitement in the neighborhood. The Healy’s were still alive yesterday afternoon, although both were desperately wounded. Malachi Healy is in critical condition and there is slight expectation of recovery.

The party which went to Canovan’s house on Wednesday night to arrest him, found him at home but armed and resolutely warned all to keep away. He threatened to shoot the first man who should enter his premises, and as none of the party was armed they were compelled to retire for reinforcements. When they returned Canovan had disappeared, and at last accounts had not been found. Difficultly is anticipated in effecting his arrest, as he is evidently desperate.
