Serious Accident – Farley has been the scene of more hair-breadth escapes from death than any station on the Dubuque & Sioux City road, and if we are not mistaken it has its full quota of serious injuries. Being the junction of two roads, where transfers are made between three trains for passengers, there is often much confusion, and strangers are frequently getting on the wrong trains.

Yesterday a German from Allamakee County, who had been down on the Southwestern road, reached Farley on his way home. As the train from the east came in he got into a terrible state of excitement lest he should take the eastern, not western, bound train. The man made a fantastic dash for the cars as the train going west was moving from the station. He slipped and fell between the cars and the platform, and the opening not being large enough to allow him to drop through, he was dragged the whole length of the platform, the motion of the cars rolling him along and of course crushing him frightfully. At the end of the platform he dropped to the ground. When picked up it was found that he was injured in a terrible manner. One arm was broken, and his body was crushed and bruised about the abdomen so badly that it was feared he could not survive. He was placed in the hotel, and every care will be taken of him.
