ARCHBISHOP GETS PALLIUM
A gathering of distinguished prelates of the country will visit Dubuque Monday, October 27th, when Most Rev. Francis L. Beckman, archbishop of Dubuque, will be invested with the pallium, the official insignia of his office.
Most Rev. John T. McNicholas, archbishop of Cincinnati, will preside at the investiture and preach the sermon. Right Rev. Patrick McGovern, bishop 0f Cheyenne, Wyoming, will celebrate the mass.
Bishop-elect Louis B. Kucera, of Lincoln, Nebraska, will be consecrated in St. Raphael's Cathedral on the following day. The bishop-elect is now pastor at Protivin, Iowa.
The pallium is a yoke-like band of white wool with pendant on the breast and back and is adorned with crosses. It is the distinctive vestment of archbishops and is sent to them by the Pope.
