The Daveport Gazette, November 4, 1847.

The last Dubuque Express is down upon the Irish. Alluding to where that class of immigrants is almost wholly employed-on the Canada line of Canal and Railroad improvements-it says, very derisively, that a new mode has been discovered of getting them together, which is “to hold up to the light of the sun a glass bottle well charged with whiskey.” We never said anything half so hard as that against the Irish. (The senior editor of the Dubuque Express, George Greene, was subsequently appointed to the Iowa Supreme Court.)
